She was searching through the drawers of her disorderly desk, when she heard a knock on the door. She peeked through the peephole before opening it. One of her fellow police officers, or...?
She didn't like to think that the cops had been betrayed by one of their own, but that's what the signs had been suggesting. She didn't open the door. Maybe she should pretend to be asleep or not home?
"It's me. Help me, please! She--She tried to kill me!"

Snow Stormberg opened the door and was met with a knife to the stomach.
Snow gasped for breath. She'd just thought of the perfect witty comeback, but she was too dying to say it.
"Cat got your tongue? Pity." The mafioso stabbed Snow one more time to put her out of her misery. She died with a grin on her face, laughing at her own joke that she'd never get to tell.
The next morning, the angry screech of Henry the telepathic ninja owl brought the remaining townsfolk to the scene of the crime. They buried their fallen comrade under a tree, had a brief but emotional funeral service, and then went back to giving each other suspicious glances.
It is now Day 2.

I wrote the story while thinking about Snow rather than the mafioso, so it's probably not the best place to look for a hint. The mafioso had no creative control over it.

Duggy investigated El and got unsuspicious, again, framing no one except for where she added that she could be insane.
El investigated me and got unsuspicious, however she was the last to answer and clearly she's smart. She could be playing it to her advantage.

I drew a little mind map thing. We literally can't be certain of who it is right now. Someone else is going to die tonight. it would be really helpful if me or dug died tonight as me and sil only have 2 cops we could be. either we think everyone is unsuspicious (me) or suspicious (Jai) and the person that has a different set of results is the mafia and we can kill them straight away whereas Elleni and Dugglyn still have 3 so they won't be able to tell who they are for a while.
We'll be able to catch the person tonight actually. Unless Jai is the mafia and she kills me. then the mafia will probably win. Unless elleni and dug get really lucky.
But yeah, if either me or jai survive tonight we'll catch whoever it is. If neither me or jai get a different set of results that means i'm niave and Jai is paranoid which means Elleni duggy or snow are insane or regular or the killer. If we do get different results tonight we win.
Or if we both get the same results it means it's elleni not dug. Or that we're Niave/paranoid of course. but then everyone else will be able to work out who they are.

What happens if it gets to a day and only one cop is left alive? Is it a case of "whoever votes first wins?" Or is it autoloss for the cops?
If there are two people left, one vote isn't a majority, and the mafioso isn't gonna vote for themselves. Neither is the cop, for that matter. There's no hanging, and the next night the mafioso kills the cop. If that happens, I'll speed through it a bit because it's the only possible outcome.
