Round 4 Night 1

The Sanctuary halls were abuzz with nervous chatter. Rumors spread amongst the crowd, rumors of evil growing within the Sanctuary, waiting to strike. Mages tossed and turned restlessly, scared to go to sleep lest they never wake. Others skipped sleep entirely to work toward finding the killers, but would their efforts succeed? Maybe eventually.

Player order and role order nor correlated. Roles were assigned randomly.

IT IS NOW NIGHT 1

You have until Monday, July 11th at 10 AM Pacific Time to submit your actions if you have them (6PM British time). That is also how long you have to strategize on your separate blogs if you are a Mafia or a Necromancer.

Round 4--Skulduggery-themed!

This round of mini-Mafia will have a Skulduggery theme, but some of the roles will be effectively the same, just with Skulduggery-world titles. The stories will also be Skulduggerish. Sign up below and tell your friends and stuff!

Here's the rolelist right now. I may post a shorter one to limit the number of roles that could appear in the game.

SANCTUARY: Goal is to find and kill all Mafia.

Elemental-- (akin to citizen) No special powers.

Prime Detective-- (akin to cop) Can investigate one per night. Receives a verdict of suspicious or unsuspicious depending on whether or not their target is Mafia-aligned.

Healer-- (akin to Doctor) Can heal one person per night. That person can't be killed or converted by a vampire.

Necromancer-- (similar to twin, with some differences) Can talk to other Necromancers. At any point in the game, the Necromancers may decide as a group to invite one dead player into their chat.

Teleporter-- Can switch two people. Any actions targeting one will target the other. 

Gist-- Can chose to transform, killing who visits them that night (good or evil). Limit 2 transformations per game.

Magiphage-- (akin to Roleblocker) Can drain someone of their magic, rendering them unable to perform any actions that night. Can also carry out the night's kill, but won't be able to drain anyone that night.

Sensitive-- Can visit one person per night. Will learn whether that person is sanctuary, Mafia, or neutral, even for roles like the Godfather who are usually immune to investigation or people who are framed. However, if the Sensitive is visited by anyone, they will lose their concentration and learn the alignment of the visitor instead (but not the visitor's identity). If they are visited by two people, they will learn nothing.

Grand Mage-- Can reveal self as the Grand Mage by emailing the Supreme Galactic Overlord any time during the day. The Overlord will then announce to everyone that this player is the Grand Mage. Once announced, their vote counts double, but the majority needed to lynch stays the same.

Metalmage-- (has weapons) Can choose to defend one player per night. Will die with that player's attacker. Can defend self and die with own attacker. If they defend someone else, that player will survive.

Monster Hunter-- Can take the law into their own hands and choose one player to kill during the night. Limit two per game, can't do anything night one. Also can't shoot two days in a row

MAFIA: Goal is to kill all the Sanctuary.

Mevolent-- (akin to Godfather) The Mafia's head honcho. Immune to cop investigations and roleblocks and can't be killed at night, except by the metalmage defending someone or by visiting the gist when they are on alert, or by being switched with their own target. (Immune to Monster Hunter kills and being bused with other Mafia members' targets and Killer Supreme. Cannot die by the hand of anyone possessed by a remnant).

Mafioso-- No special powers beyond killing

Vampire-- Can convert one person to the Mafia. The converted person will become a mafioso. Limit one conversion per game. Can also carry out the night's kill, but won't be able to transform someone the same night. 

Necromancer Turncoat-- (evil twin?) Same abilities as a normal Necromancer, but secretly working against their Necromancer brethren. Can only carry out the Mafia kill if the other Mafia members are dead.

Shunter-- (basically the evil version of teleporter, but I wanted to call them something different) Can switch two people. Any actions targeting one will target the other. Can also carry out the night's kill, but won't be able to transport anyone that night.

Leech-- (akin to Evil Roleblocker) Can drain someone of their magic, rendering them unable to 
perform any actions that night. Can also carry out the night's kill, but won't be able to drain anyone that night.

Illusionist-- (akin to Framer) Can make an innocent person look guilty or a guilty person look innocent to cop investigations.

NEUTRAL: Goals vary

"Killer Supreme"-- Can attempt to murder someone each night. Has a 1 in 4 chance of succeeding, with the odds becoming slimmer each time someone dies. Not Mafia-aligned, but shows up as "suspicious" when investigated. Has the same odds of being immune to a night kill. Goal is to kill someone, anyone. If the Killer Supreme is the last one standing, they get ultimate bragging rights. Can win with town or Mafia if they have already killed someone, otherwise the game will continue until the Killer Supreme kills or is killed. 

Remnant-- Can possess one player per night, and select a target. The player will perform their action on the Remnant's target rather than their original target. If the person has two targets in the same action (i.e. Teleporter), the first target will be replaced with the remnant's target, but the second will stay the same. Wants the town to be dead and wins with the Mafia, but does not know who the Mafia members are.

Reflection-- Can take on the role of any dead person. Wins by fulfilling that role's requirements. There will be an announcement when the lost soul takes a role, but the soul's identity will not be revealed. If there is a vampire in the game and the vampire converts someone, the Reflection will have the option to take that person's old role, even though they're not exactly dead.

UPDATE: Because there are so many roles, it was necessary to create an order of operations. It just occurred to me that I should probably share this with you.

Do y'all want more normal-ish games like that last one, or 5-player cop-based games like round 1, or a normal-ish version except the roles are Skulduggery-themed (I've been working on a list for that)?

Also--I'm gonna open up the floor to anyone else who'd like to host one, either the next game or the one after. (I'd rather have it be the one after because I can work hosting around my travel schedule, but I don't think I'd be able to play until after I get back. However, if anyone is super eager to host but might not have time later, you can go next.) If you're interested in hosting one, comment, and I can work out an order.

Even if you're not interested in hosting, you're welcome to leave a comment with any input you have for future games.

Round 3 Finale

Raven grumbled and complained to the end. "But guyyyyssss! I'm not the Mafia. It's Star! Jai! Henry? Oh, come on. That owl looks SUPER suspicious."

Henry screeched indignantly and ripped off his fake mustache that he spontaneously grew while executing Taia.

"See? He had a fake mustache! He must be lying to y--" Raven stopped. Henry was in her face now, given her the evil owl eyes.

"You've been voted to hang. Your time is up." Henry tried to pretend he wasn't pleased about this. He didn't take kindly to being accused.

Raven scowled. "Wait no! There are four of us here. You, me, Jai, Star. Only Jai and Star voted. That's not a majority."

"I'm too cool to be classified in the same category as you mainstream mortals." Henry said. "I guess it's cool that so many of you have telepathic capabilities though, as it makes it sound like I'm actually talking like a normal person even though I'm not. Actually, maybe that's my new TARDIS translating. That would make sense. It'd also explain why I spoke French yesterday. Je ne parle pas français. Wait what? Oh yeah. Right. I was executing you. Goodbye now."

Henry dropped Raven into a pit and told the zombie caterpillars that she was the one who'd killed Dug. They crawled all over her, sniffing for traces of Dugglyn's blood. Sure enough, it was there. The caterpillars were quite pleased. It had been a while since they'd been allowed to eat a person.

To her credit, Raven, Evil Roleblocker cackled evilly and yelled "vote Raven for president!" as often as she screamed.

The next day, there was time to give everyone a funeral. Jai, Star, Henry and the Supreme Galactic Commander stood over the graves dug by the Commander's minions.

Everyone said something about everyone.

"I know I didn't trust her, but she actually did a lot for the town and I'll never forget it."

"She was cool sometimes when she wasn't killing people."

"It's too bad he didn't live longer. He had so much life ahead of him."

"Thanks for the free TARDIS, bro. Owl Docta 4 Lyfeeeeeeeee!"

"She fought admirably until the bitter end."

Jai cleared her throat. "Dugglyn Carzania.. What really is there to say? The crazy pink fluff ball of energy that came bursting into our lives and has left us shell shocked ever since. I won't pretend I didn't loathe her occasionally. Sisters fight and we are no acception, although I'd like to think that our fighting was never extreme. She'd sacrafice herself for me, she said so herself.. Unfortunately she didn't have to, and I wasn't there in time to do so for her. Guess it's too late to say it now? I can hardly wind back time and save her. Yeah.."

Jai looked up, took a breath, and looked down again. "Everybody needs their rock and I especially need a rock whenever I'm going through this game, and ever though it was only three nights and two days, Dugglyn kept me sane and stopped me from stressing out. During the pre trial and the trial it was her arguments that kept me from hanging by a rope and I'm thankful for that, she's the reason the town has won. Too bad she can't bask in the glory. This should have been her third win, instead it's her first loss. I like to think that since we're telepathic twins in a way she still has won, that part of her remains inside my head and that she will at least get carried forwards to her glorious third victory with us."

Jai paused and looked away. "When I found out she was dead.. It stopped. My heart that is, just for a bit. The idea that such a vibrant light had just been snatched away, bright eyes and a bright mind snuffled out forever.. I froze up slightly and.. Anger and regret. Dugglyn shouldn't have been the person to die tonight, but in all my panicking I didn't have the foresight to tell her that I didn't want her gone, that I need her and that she, if anyone, should be the one to live. If avoiding my death has lead to my sisters death then that isn't right, and it shan't go unpunished. I love you Dug.. I'm sorry it's too late my wild banshee ninja. May you rest in peace. See y'all real soon."

Silence for a moment.

"Even with all the regret that I have for killing those that I loved. I would do it all again just to spend more time with the living you. If only I had commented first so that I was left hanging from those eco friendly gallows when the sun set last night. I would give the world just to fight good with you just one more time."

Star looked over and frowned. "Raven, you're dead. It doesn't make sense for dead people to give eulogies to other dead people."

"Well I'm the ghost president, so I can do whatever the hell I want! See you later, puny humans!" Raven floated off into the darkness to join her fellow Mafia ghost. The sound of a ghostly harmonica echoed into the night.

The supreme overlord watched them go, and signaled for some of her minions to follow them. If their plan to overthrow her ever came to anything, she could smite them easily. However, there'd been too much death already to kill the already dead just now.

The town has won! Congratulations to Star and Jai for surviving until the end! Thank you all for playing!

Round 3 Day 3

The townsfolk went to bed, pleased that they'd managed to catch one of the villains. However, one of them would not wake up the next morning.

That was the way things worked in Mafia town. You'd start to get ahead, but people would still end up dying. It sucked, for those people. The mafioso found it fun. One last murder before the gallows. Better make it a good one.

Jai returned home to find her door hanging ajar. She grabbed a large stick and hesitantly peeked in the doorway. "Hello?"

Her house was empty, as far as she could tell. The place had been torn apart a bit. It looked like someone had done as much destruction as they could in five minutes.

"I'm not scared of you," Jai lied.

No one answered.

The back door was open, too, and there was a note taped to it with fluorescent pink duct tape. Jai approached it cautiously and squinted, trying to make out the words in the dying light.

You kill my sister, I kill yours.

"No!" she yelled. "No no no no no no no!"

She ran over to her twin's house, but it was too late.

Dugglyn, Twin, lay in a pool of her own blood. When she saw her sister, she made a feeble attempt at sitting up.

"Save your energy," Jai whispered. "You'll make it through this."

"No," Dugglyn said. "I don't think I will. The doctor's dead and I... I'm losing a lot of blood."

"Stay with me, please..."

"Don't hate yourself... For not being... The one to die... You know I'd... Sacrifice myself... To save you... I love you, Jai." Dugglyn exhaled, and her soul flew out of her body into some sort of afterlife if you believe in that.

Jai watched it go. Because she could communicate telepathically with her twin, she could sense her soul, and she knew that Dugglyn was at peace.

It wasn't enough, though.

Somebody was going to pay for this.

Round 3 Night 3

After 24 hours, the verdict hadn't changed. Taia was brought up to the eco-friendly gallows.

"Do you have any last words?" Henry asked politely.

Taia nodded. "You're making a horrible mistake," she whispered, a single dramatic tear rolling down her cheek. When she realized that they would show no mercy, she dropped the act. She pulled her hand free to wipe the tear away and grinned. "You're still all going to die."

Henry spontaneously grew a mustache. "Après-vous, Mademoiselle DeMars."

A few seconds later, it was over. The body of Taia, Mafioso, dangled lifelessly from the rope.

Round 3 Day 2

Once the night was dark, a certain person returned to a certain phone booth-like transportation device to grab some supplies. The aforementioned person set out again, towards the center of town. They peeked into a window and nodded. Their services would not be needed today.

Upon returning home, Snow Stormberg, Doctor, immediately noticed something was amiss. Her TARDIS was sending distress signals across the space-time continuum, and the air conditioning was adjusted three degrees lower than she liked it.

"Who's there?" she called.

A masked Mafia member appeared from the shadows. "So good to see you."

Snow scowled. "You've made the TARDIS upset. What do you have to say for yourself?"

"I think I'll turn the question around to you. What do you have to say? These will be your last words, after all."

"I will always remember when the Doctor was me."

The Mafia member nodded. "That'll do." They pulled out a gun and fired three times. Just. Like. That.

Snow blinked and she was dead.
