Round 2 Day 3

A cop was hard at work, poking around places they maybe weren't meant to be poking around.

"Dum de dum de dum. Oh! What's this?" The cop shone their flashlight on a small metallic object on the ground. "Huh. It looks kinda like a gun."

They picked it up, and immediately someone jumped out from behind a building.

"Ah!" The cop shot out of instinct, only to realize that the gun was in fact a paintball gun. Pretty useless against a Mafia member in protective gear.

The next morning, the body of Lua, Cop was found in a shady part of town. The gun clutched in her hand made it look like she'd shot herself, but the angle was wrong, and upon further inspection, so was the gun.

It is now Day 2

Comment moderation will be turned off as soon as I've emailed out the results of everyone's night actions. You'll all receive an email, even if you decided to do nothing or did not submit an action.

You can use this time to discuss amongst yourselves in the comment section and try to sleuth out the mafioso. You do not have to share the results of your investigations, though failing to do so may make you seem suspicious.

If you want to hang a suspected mafioso, you can type castvote [player's name]
If you type "vote" rather than "castvote," your vote will be valid if I see it. However, I'm gonna Ctrl-F "castvote" when tallying up, so that's not a guarantee. Also please avoid using the word castvote when you're not voting. Use vote instead, e.g. "I think I'm gonna vote for Fabi." and then later "castvoteFabi"
If you want to redact a vote (which you can only do before it's reached a majority), type unvote. Please use bold! The code for that is <b>[Bold text]</b>

You are not obligated to hang somebody, though failing to do so may give the mafioso an advantage.

The day will end Monday May 2nd, at 9AM Pacific Time (5PM UK time) unless a majority is reached and a suspect is selected, or unless people vote skip day, which also requires a majority vote.

If a suspect is selected, their 24-hour defense phase will begin immediately, even if I am not online to say so. During that time, you may castvote "innocent" or "guilty," and you may change your vote at any time. The vote will not lock until the end of the defense phase.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Snow is out of town, so Lua can remain in the game for this day phase to fill Snow's spot. She does not have her own results because she's dead. I'll send her Snow's though.

The majority of votes needed today is 5.

If you have any questions, comment them in italics or email me.

Round 2 Night 2

Day 2 has ended. Everyone produced sheriff's badges, but if was unclear which badges were legit, which stolen. Henry the telepathic-ninja-owl-slash-petty-thief handed out a bunch of extra badges, just to add to the confusion. One person was overheard saying "Why are you giving this to me? I can't pretend to be two cops." However, no one was sure who'd said that.

As the sun set, the gallows remained empty.

IT IS NOW NIGHT 2

Comment moderation has been turned on. You have until Saturday, April 30th at 9PM Pacific time (5:00 AM Sunday May 1st in the UK) to submit your night actions. If everyone submits something before then, the night will end early. If you have any questions, email me.

Round 2 Day 2

When the sun rose over the town, there was no dead body to be seen. Whispers echoed around the square. What did this mean? Were the powers that be simply feeling merciful, or was something deeper going on?

Did Someone Say Mini-Mafia Round 2?!

So, Jai thinks that May 9th is too long to wait, so if I get 5 people again, I'll make another small mini-game. If  new people want to play, I can expand the list to have 8 people, but I don't want to make it any more complicated than that because I also want to work on the future version that Elleni's helping to improve.

I've only changed a couple things this round. I've added a possible role to get dead people's info, and I'm going to add a trial/defence phase like Elleni suggested.

Basically once a vote has been locked, that candidate doesn't die right away. Instead, they have 24 hours to defend themselves. During that time, the other players can vote innocent or guilty. This vote won't lock and can be changed at any time until the phase ends.

Here are the roles explained in more detail. The order listed is the order that they'll be added to the game as people sign up.
  1. Mafioso: Can kill one person each night. Goal is to avoid detection and kill everyone in the town.
  2. Regular Cop: Can investigate one person each night. Receives a verdict of "suspicious" for the mafioso, "unsuspicious" for everyone else. Goal is to find and hang the mafioso.
  3. Naive Cop: Can investigate one person each night. Receives a verdict of "unsuspicious" for everyone. Goal is to find and hang the mafioso.
  4. Paranoid Cop: Can investigate one person each night. Receives a verdict of "suspicious" for everyone. Goal is to find and hang the mafioso.
  5. Insane Cop: Can investigate one person each night. Receives a verdict of "unsuspicious" for the mafioso, "suspicious" for everyone else. Goal is to find and hang the mafioso.
  6. Doctor: Picks one person to heal each night. If that person is killed, they won't die.
  7. (A second mafioso) The Mafia can still only have one kill per night, but there will be two people for the town to find and hang in order to win.
  8. Coroner: Can investigate a dead cop to see either their exact role or their most recent investigation and results (coroner's choice).
  9. Survivor: Their night action is to decide whether or not to wear a bulletproof vest. They are immune to being killed on nights they wear a vest, but they only have two vests per game. Goal is to survive until the end. Can win with either Mafia or Town.
Sign up by commenting here and saying something along the lines of "count me in," or by emailing me. Also tell your friends and stuff!

Mini-Mafia 1 Dramatic Conclusion

The two remaining townsfolk were torn. The mafioso was torn too--who to frame?

Eventually, though, one person was pushed towards the gallows. That person was Gemma.

The executioner, silent, tied the rope around her neck. "Any last words."

"You guys, I'm innocent. If you kill me, you kill yourselves. Well, except yo--"

The rope tightened, and the body of Gemma, Cop fell to the floor.

Dugglyn, Mafioso turned to Elleni, Cop. "You're next."

Elleni blinked in shock. "But... I calculated! There was only an 0.1 chance that you were--"

Dug shrugged. "Stranger things have happened, and do with alarming regularity."

Elleni sighed. "This is all my fault..."

"You could run away. Join me in the dark side. My eyes have refried beans. Yours could, too." Dug pointed to her eyes, which were indeed drowning in refried beans.

Elleni attempted a sad smile. Her friend--or had she ever been that--was still there, somewhere.

After a long pause, she strengthened her resolve. "No. I am an officer of the law." She pulled out her small police pistol. It had one bullet, one shot at life.

She pulled back the safety, closed her eyes, and pulled the trigger. "This is for you, Gemma, Silente, Snow..."

She opened her eyes to find Dug grinning down at her. By some bizarre magic, the refried beans had stopped the bullet.

"Their only weakness is hanging," Dug explained. "That's why they're the perfect weapon for the dark side. You really should have joined while you had the chance. Pie!"

Refried beans were everywhere now. They seemed to be multiplying. They covered Elleni's eyes and hair until she couldn't breathe and fell to the floor, dead.

Dugglyn stood up and cackled. "MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA"

Henry the owl screeched mournfully along.

Congratulations, Dugglyn! This is actually the first time that a mafioso has won this version, as far as I'm aware. This is based off a sample of like 3-4 games, but it's still an achievement!

Here's the complete role list.
  • Dugglyn, Mafioso
  • Elleni, Normal Cop
  • Gemma, Naive Cop
  • Silente, Insane Cop
  • Snow, Paranoid Cop
Elleni and I are going to co-host the next version, which will start around May 9th or so. Sign-ups will be posted soon. Tell your friends!

Mini-Mafia 1 Day Three

Holy guacamole that was quick.

A cop poked around. She investigated, nodded to herself, and headed back to her house. She had a thought. It was a very good thought, and she wanted to write it down before she forgot.

A masked figure awaited her on the porch. She knew instantly who it must be. A nearby string quartet started to play suspense music, and the cop glanced at them, annoyed that they weren't helping. How would they even help, though? Call the police? Hah.

The cop pulled out a pair of handcuffs. The mafioso pulled out a gun.

"You have the right to remain silent. Or should I say Silente?

*******

The next morning, Henry dutifully resumed his role as murder-scene locator. The townsfolk frowned. What did this mean? Who was the mafioso, and who would be their next victim?

IT IS NOW DAY 3

Comment moderation will be turned off as soon as your emails with your night action results have been sent out.

The day will end Wednesday, April 27th at 3pm for Elleni and Dugglyn, 11pm for Jai and Gemma. It will end earlier if there's a hanging or a skip.

Mini-Mafia 1 Night Two

Tensions were high among the townsfolk as the sun set on Day 2, which was actually technically the first day, but I thought Day 1 should come before Night 1, which means that Day 1 was the sign-up phase.

Many suspicious glances were cast, but the gallows remained empty.

Anyway!

IT IS NOW NIGHT 2

Comment moderation has been turned on. Comment the name of the person you would like to investigate below.

The night will end Wednesday, April 27th at 3pm for Elleni and Dugglyn, 11pm for Jai and Gemma. It will end earlier if everyone submits their action early.

Mini Mafia 1 Day Two

(Everyone submitted an action, so you can have a little more time to talk.)

It seemed like an ordinary night. A detective sat about, unable to sleep.
"Huh," she muttered to herself. "Where did I put my notebook?"
She was searching through the drawers of her disorderly desk, when she heard a knock on the door. She peeked through the peephole before opening it. One of her fellow police officers, or...?

She didn't like to think that the cops had been betrayed by one of their own, but that's what the signs had been suggesting. She didn't open the door. Maybe she should pretend to be asleep or not home?

"It's me. Help me, please! She--She tried to kill me!"

The detective wasn't about to let one of her fellow police officers die. She wasn't that kind of person.

Snow Stormberg opened the door and was met with a knife to the stomach.

Snow gasped for breath. She'd just thought of the perfect witty comeback, but she was too dying to say it.

"Cat got your tongue? Pity." The mafioso stabbed Snow one more time to put her out of her misery. She died with a grin on her face, laughing at her own joke that she'd never get to tell.

The next morning, the angry screech of Henry the telepathic ninja owl brought the remaining townsfolk to the scene of the crime. They buried their fallen comrade under a tree, had a brief but emotional funeral service, and then went back to giving each other suspicious glances.

It is now Day 2.

Comment moderation will be turned off as soon as I've emailed out the results of everyone's night actions. You can use this time to discuss amongst yourselves in the comment section and try to sleuth out the mafioso. You do not have to share the results of your investigations, though failing to do so may make you seem suspicious.

If you want to hang a suspected mafioso, you can type vote [player's name]
If you want to redact a vote (which you can only do before it's reached a majority), type unvote. Please use bold! The code for that is <b>Bold text</b>

You are not obligated to hang somebody, though failing to do so may give the mafioso an advantage. However, hanging an innocent citizen has very major bad consequences in a game this small.

The day will end Tuesday April 26th, at 8PM GMT (1PM Pacific Time) unless a majority is reached and someone is hanged, or unless people vote skip day, which also requires a majority vote.

The majority of votes needed today is 3.

If you have any questions, comment them in italics or email me.

Mini-Mafia 1 Night One

It's not noon yet, but we now have 5 players, so I'm going to start the game. Anyone else who wants to join can join as a back-up player in case someone has to quit.

Players:
1) Silente Tempest
2) Dugglyn Carzainia
3) Gemma
4) Snow Stormberg
5) Elleni (Villichora)

Roles: (subject to change with player number, currently shown for 5, as that's the minimum number of people needed)
1) Mafioso
2) Regular Cop
3) Naive Cop
4) Paranoid Cop
5) Insane Cop

Roles and players are matched randomly. The numbers are unrelated.

Here are the roles explained in more detail

Mafioso: Can kill one person each night. Goal is to avoid detection and kill everyone else.

Regular Cop: Can investigate one person each night. Receives a verdict of "suspicious" for the mafioso, "unsuspicious" for everyone else. Goal is to find and hang the mafioso.

Naive Cop: Can investigate one person each night. Receives a verdict of "unsuspicious" for everyone. Goal is to find and hang the mafioso.

Paranoid Cop: Can investigate one person each night. Receives a verdict of "suspicious" for everyone. Goal is to find and hang the mafioso.

Insane Cop: Can investigate one person each night. Receives a verdict of "unsuspicious" for the mafioso, "suspicious" for everyone else. Goal is to find and hang the mafioso.

The cops will only be told they are a cop. They will have to deduce which cop they are based off the results of their investigations.

The roles are being emailed out even as we speak, and comment moderation has been turned on.

IT IS NOW NIGHT 1

As soon as you receive your role, leave a comment below. The comment will not show up, but it will be visible to me. You will then have until Monday, April 25th at 9pm GMT to submit your night action (either kill or investigate someone, depending on your role). All you need to do is comment that person's name.

If you did not receive your role, email me (link in profile), and I'll send it again.

Additionally, the first rule of Mafia is that we don't talk about Mafia outside of the Mafia blog! Things like "hey dude, check my most recent post in Mafia" are okay, and you can always email Fabi the admin about the game, but anything else will be considered cheating. Absolutely no emailing people your roles or discussing strategy outside of the game. There's only one mafioso, so there won't be a night chat this game.

Wednesday, April 20, 2016

UPDATE:

We have four players so far (thank y'all so much btw). We need at least 5 for the game to begin.

If I don't get that number by Sunday at noon Pacific Time, I will have a NPC play. If the NPC is a sheriff, it will post its results each day. If it is the Mafioso, it will randomly select kills and post random fake results to try to pretend to be a sheriff.

THAT SAID

The game will run more smoothly and be more fun if there are more players, and if they're actually people rather than bots! Tell your friends and stuff! If there are more players, I'll make the role list more

If there are 5 players, the rolelist will be as follows:
1) Mafioso
2) Sheriff
3) Naive Sheriff
4) Insane Sheriff
5) Paranoid Sheriff

If there are 6, I'll add another mafioso. The two mafiosi will decide on one kill between them. However, the town will have to find and hang both to win.

If there are more than 6, I'll make all the cops normal cops (though there'll only be one or two) and add the other specialty roles (like the doctor!) into the equation.

Sign up if you haven't already, and tell your friends! I only need 5 to continue, but anyone who signs up before Sunday at noon Pacific Time is in.

Mini-Game 1: Mini Mafia

This is very much based off the version on the SP forums, but I'm changing it a bit to make it fit with the blog format, and I'm adjusting roles just a smidgen.

Basically, the Mafia try to kill everybody in the town, and the town try to figure out who's Mafia and hang them. There are two phases:

Day phase: People discuss and try to guess who's suspicious. At any time during the day, a player may vote to hang someone by typing <b>\vote [player to be hanged]</b>. If the majority of players vote for the person, the person will be hanged. You can change your vote by typing <b>\unvote</b>, but only before the vote has reached a majority.

Night phase: If your role has a night action, you submit it to Fabi during the night phase. The Mafia will be able to talk to each other during the night and decide who to kill if this is a game with multiple Mafia members (which it may or may not be, depending on how many people sign up).

If you can commit to being part of a game for about 2-3 weeks during which you'll have to check the game each day, I strongly encourage you to sign up! You can do so by leaving a comment that says "count me in," or something along those lines. If you have any questions, also comment here.

Rolelist:

Town: Goal is to lynch all Mafia.
  • Citizen--Ordinary member of the town, can vote for a lynch, but has no special abilities
  • Cop--Can investigate someone every night phase. Receives a verdict of "suspicious" for all Mafia members except the Godfather, "unsuspicious" for everyone else. Depending on how many people are interested, I may make all the townies cops and have them be the normal, naive (sees everyone as unsuspicious), paranoid (sees everyone as suspicious), and insane (sees people as the opposite of what they really are). However, if more than 6 people sign up, there will only be 1 or 2 normal cops. Exact role list will be revealed when sign-ups have closed.
  • Doctor--Can heal someone every night. Cannot heal self.
  • Odette--Can roleblock one player each night by waving around arms in a swan-like manner. Unable to roleblock the Godfather or Odile
  • Twin--If there's one, there will always be another. Two townies who can speak to each other privately during the night phase.

Mafia: Goal is to kill the town

NOTE: Any Mafia role may be sent to kill. The killer will forfeit any other actions for that night. Only one Mafia member will kill per night.
  • Mafioso--Ordinary Mafia member. Has no special ability beyond killing.
  • Godfather--The leader of the Mafia. Is immune to investigations (will show as "unsuspicious") and roleblocks.
  • Consigliere--Can investigate one player per night. Receives a list of three roles, one of which is the player's role, the other two are randomly determined.
  • Odile--Can roleblock one player each night by doing 32 fouett├ęs. Unable to roleblock Odette.
  • Framer--Can frame one person each night. That person will give the opposite result from normal if investigated. (This role will not be included in a game with multiple types of cops)

Neutral: (Neutral roles will only be included if there are 10 or more players)
  • Jester--Crazy person who wants to be hanged by the town
  • Serial Killer--Kills one person per night. Goal is to be the last one standing. Will kill the dancer instead if roleblocked.
  • Survivor--Has 2 vests that make him/her immune to night attacks. Can choose to use these at any point in the game. Goal is to survive until the end.
